This pilot initiative started from the puzzle of how to bridge lab and field. Over a 6 month period, we created space for synthetic biology teams to engage with breeders, artists and social scientists as well as our findings from fieldwork in the potato breeding world. Our Governance Initiatives take up some of the puzzles and turn them into practical, collaborative experiments in responsible innovation.
We are also experimenting with how we document our research. Rather than one official account, we’ve asked people to narrate it from their perspective in their own words — because how something comes into being depends on who you ask.
